This December, Nollywood, the dominant force in African film, will release a number of eagerly awaited movies, ensuring an exciting year-end.
Last December, the highest-grossing Nollywood movie, A Tribe Called Judah, was released and made over N1 billion, breaking box office records.
December has become a unique period for the release of blockbuster films and as families and friends gather for the festive season, they are thrilled with intent anticipation following the teasers, trailers and promotional campaigns flooding social media.

1. Everybody Loves Jenifa (Release Date: December 13th)
Funke Akindele has yet another star-studded movie for her fans this year. As stated earlier in this article, the renowned actress broke the Nigerian box office record with her film, A Tribe Called Judah, amassing over N1 billion.
The upcoming drama, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which is inspired by the original comedy series, Jenifa’s Diary, depicts how Jenifa and her companions encounter a lethal drug lord in Ghana after a bag of drugs is inadvertently left in their rental.
Her popularity wanes when Lobster, a dubious new neighbour, outshines her charitable endeavours.
This sequel, which was directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, features Patience Ozokwor and Nancy Isime in addition to returning fan favourites like Falz, Juliana Olayode, and Tobi Makinde.
2. The Waiter (Release Date: December 20th)
Popular comedian and actor AY Makun is known for his blockbuster releases, some of which have made their way to the Guinness World Records. Some of his previous amazing works include; 30 Days in Atlanta, Merry Men and A Trip to Jamaica. You must be excited because he has put together a team of amazing actors for yet another amazing film titled, The Waiter.
The action-packed film follows a waiter who is unintentionally caught in the thick of a hotel invasion, which sets up a crazy and exciting journey.
The movie, which was directed by Toka McBaror and AY Makun, features Shaffy Bello, Deyemi Okanlawon, Regina Daniels, Rahama Sadau, Williams Uchemba, Toke Makinwa, and other actors.
3. Thinline (Release Date: December 13th)
Mercy Aigbe produced her first film, Ada Omo Daddy last year and it was released on December 15th. The movie was a huge success and amassed an impressive N200 million at the box office.
The actress has taken another shot at making another movie this year titled, Thinline, which promises to be a thrilling watch.
The murder mystery movie explores the intricacies of faith, morality, and atonement while narrating the compelling tale of Pastor Raymond, a dynamic figure renowned for his spirit-filled sermons and realistic perspectives on marriage and relationships.
However, after a fortuitous meeting with an escort named Annie, he finds himself in the grip of sin. As Raymond struggles with his secret and is torn between faith and fear, tragedy befalls him when Annie is discovered dead.
Mercy Aigbe, Iyabo Ojo, Uzor Arukwe, Uche Montana, Olaiya Igwe, Yvonne Jegede, Nkechi Blessing, Adeniyi Johnson, Jaiyeola Kuti, Abdulgafar Abiola (Cute Abiola), and Prisma James are among the film’s outstanding cast members. “Thinline” is distributed by Cinemax and produced by Mercy Aigbe Productions, Captain of the Sea Productions, and Adekaz Productions.
4. Seven Doors (Release Date: December 13th)
Femi Adebayo makes his directorial debut with the film, Seven Doors, which premieres on Netflix on December 13th. Through intriguing themes of love, power, and tradition, the limited series immerses viewers in Nigeria’s 18th and 19th centuries.
The film, which stars Femi Adebayo as a Yoruba king and Chioma Akpotha as his Igbo queen, depicts the chaos brought about by a Hausa investor whose goals upend the customs of their realm.
Other cast members include Adebayo Salami, Ronke Oshodi, Muyiwa Ademola, Jide Kosoko, Aisha Lawal, Yinka Quadri, and Gabriel Afolayan, among others.
5. One Night Guests (Release Date: December 25th)
Ghanaians and Nigerians collaborate massively to serve viewers with something spectacular on this one.
The narrative examines random meetings and how they may alter lives, making it both endearing and captivating to watch.
On December 25, 2024, One Night Guests will have its simultaneous debut in theatres in Ghana and Nigeria.
The movie is directed by Peter Sedufia and features stars from both countries including Annabel Apara, Anita Asuoha, Ini Edo, Lasisi Elenu, Chidi Mokeme, and others.
6. Alakada: Bad and Boujee (Release Date: Not Specified)
With the fifth volume of the Alakada series, Toyin Abraham returns to continue the comic adventures of Yetunde, a character adored for her outlandish lies and attempts to rise in society. This comedy, which is full of relatability and humour, is likely to be a holiday classic.
7. Christmas In Lagos (Release Date: December 20th)
“Christmas in Lagos,” which is set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos’ renowned Detty December, features a holiday romance by Jade Osiberu. The film is a blend of drama, romance, and Lagos atmosphere, with entwined stories that include characters like Fiyin (Teniola Aladese) negotiating love triangles and Gbemi (Shaffy Bello) torn between two suitors.
