Margaret Oyibo Atayi, a Nigerian woman and mother of two, committed suicide on Monday, May 20, after her marriage in Nassarawa State ended tragically.
Her father and a sibling confirmed that Margaret’s suicide was caused by depression from her marriage after she was discovered dead.
Margaret was an Idoma girl from Ugbokolo, Okpokwu LGA in Benue State. She was last seen on Friday, May 17, at around three in the morning, according to the DAILY POST.
Mr. Atayi, Margeret’s father confirmed her death, “Margaret was a mother of two children. She has been in depression for some time now due to mistreatment by her husband. She went out on that fateful Friday morning by 3am without the knowledge of anybody. Her body was discovered in the late hours of Monday, and every available evidence confirmed that she committed suicide.”
In addition to announcing her passing, her sister Stella Ameh thanked everyone who sent materials to aid in her search when she was missing in a Facebook post.
In her words, “Sunset at dawn [sic]. I want to use this medium to thank everyone for their enormous help, time, and resources put together in finding our sister Margret. Yes, she was found but has gone to find rest with her maker. God bless you all.”
According to other sources,Margaret lived abroad with their two kids and was happily married to her husband from Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA in Benue State after the death of his first wife. It was gathered that her husband relocated her back to Nigeria and abandoned her and their two kids.
