Disney’s Moana 2 has soared even higher during its home premiere, bringing its total start to $389 million worldwide.
Disney has verified that the phenomenon has achieved the greatest reported opening weekend in the history of animated films at the global box office, surpassing the previous record set by The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($377M), which also included a 5-day domestic start.
According to Deadline, Disney didn’t call out records on Sunday because the studio was stalling for the actuals to be tallied, particularly since there were no holidays overseas and estimates were greatly dependent on family weekend play.
The host of Moana 2 milestones has not been impacted by the somewhat lower-than-expected international revenue of $163.8M.
With a $386.3 million worldwide debut, Disney’s Moana 2 has surpassed all expectations. In total, $165.3M came from 48 material markets at the foreign box office, and $221M came from the record domestic Thanksgiving stretch.
After Deadpool & Wolverine, the Dwayne Johnson/Auli’i Cravalho film had the second-highest opening weekend of the year globally.
All things considered, it was a busy weekend abroad due to the ongoing success of Paramount’s Gladiator II and Universal’s Wicked.
Moana 2 had the largest animated opening ever in France. The same is true for Turkey, Serbia, Nigeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates.
