A professional Nigerian swimming coach, Dare Samuel Akinrodoye breaks massive record as he swims the entire length of the Third Mainland Bridge.
Coach Dreh, the swimming instructor, swam a staggering 11.8 kilometres across the Third Mainland Bridge in an effort to raise awareness about depression and suicide prevention.
Prior to starting his quest on March 30, he had a meeting with Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, who expressed the government’s support for his aspirations.
To do this, he swam for two hours and thirty-three minutes, accompanied by his close teammates, supporters, the media, and vital medical personnel.
He said that he had been depressed in the past and that he would have killed himself if he had not taken up swimming.
Coach Dreh explained that he chose the venue for the occasion since most people in Lagos who committed suicide in public typically leaped off the Third Mainland Bridge.
