Coventry narrowly missed a thrilling comeback victory at Wembley, and Manchester United overcame a severe scare to get to the FA Cup final on penalties.
Rasmus Hojlund won the match after Sky Blues captain Ben Sheaf’s vital kick went over the bar. However, the Championship team’s three goals in the last 20 minutes will go down in history as they rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force extra time.
With goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes setting them up for what appeared to be a routine at that point, Erik ten Hag’s squad was up three goals to none and coasting to the May 25 championship.
However, the team led by Mark Robins, who currently sits seventh in the second division, stormed back with an almost unbelievable comeback.
On the 70th minute, Ellis Simms scored from a cross at the near post to make it 3-1. A minute later, Callum O’Hare’s goal looped in off Aaron Wan-Bissaka to jolt United and set up a furious finish.
After that, Ten Hag’s defence was in disarray as they desperately held onto their lead. However, three minutes into stoppage time, Wan-Bissaka handled inside the box, allowing Haji Wright to record one of the greatest FA Cup comebacks from the penalty spot.
He calmly sent the game into extra time, sending Onana in the other direction.
Victor Torp’s cross into the net in the final minute of extra time gave Coventry the appearance of a shock victory, but Coventry’s momentary happiness was short-lived as a VAR review for offside ended the game.
